With an in-depth look into the University of California (UC) system’s latest admission data, acceptance rates, and popular majors, Spectrum Education aims at assisting students and parents make more informed decisions.

UCLA received over 140,000 applications and admitted 13,166 students, resulting in an acceptance rate of 9%. The average admitted student GPA was 3.95 unweighted and 4.22 weighted. Within specific schools, the acceptance rate was 11% for the College of Letters and Science, 5% for the School of Engineering, and 1% for the School of Nursing, reflecting a highly competitive landscape.

At UC Berkeley, the overall acceptance rate was 11.03%, with in-state students admitted at a rate of 14.93%, out-of-state students at 7.34%, and international students at only 3.36%. Highly competitive programs included the Haas School of Business with a 4.12% acceptance rate and Computer Science with an acceptance rate below 2%. New programs launching in 2025 will include Neuroscience, Israel Studies, Analytics, and Nutritional and Metabolic Biology.

At UC San Diego (UCSD), more than 130,000 applications resulted in an acceptance rate of 26.77%. UCSD introduced new programs such as Artificial Intelligence, Film and Media Arts, Literary Arts, and a new School of Computer, Information, and Data Science. The waitlist conversion rate stood at 23.96%, offering opportunities for additional students.

UC Davis (UCD) had in-state acceptance rates of 36.71%, out-of-state at 57.72%, and international students at 51.48%. Meanwhile, UC Irvine (UCI) posted an overall acceptance rate of 28.79% (in-state 21.82%, out-of-state 49.92%, and international students 43.07%). UCI also introduced new majors such as Applied and Computational Mathematics and expanded its offerings within Psychological Science.

Following the conference, Spectrum Education also shared practical application advice. Transferring majors is difficult at UCSD, UC Berkeley, and UC Riverside, while UCLA, UCSB, and UCD allow transfers with some difficulty. UCI is comparatively easier, and UC Merced is open with few restrictions. Additionally, the UC system evaluates four years of high school courses but primarily calculates GPA based on grades from 10th to 11th grade. Admissions officers suggest aligning chosen majors with extracurricular activities and advise against displaying excessive favoritism toward schools in the Personal Additional Information section. Applicants are also reminded to avoid using AI for essays, as detected usage may negatively impact admission results.
